Well here in Toronto, the sky is completely black but because it’s night out. NOOO it’s a rain storm that looks like it’s gonna do a lot of damage!! And can I just say, I hate rain. I find it very depressing, but as soon as Lightening is involved, then that crap is exciting! So to cheer myself up, I’m plating Here Comes The Sun while writing this.
This past week I got to see my dear friend Jess from Clothes & Shit and we explored the wonders and sites that is Kensington Market!! We had fish tacos from Seven Lives, The Big Bang Burger from The Burgernator and shopped the rack of various vintage shops like Courage My Love. It was a blast!!! I’ll do a blog post soon on my buys which entails my first ever purple dress!! And jess is such a sweetheart! About a month ago she went to Hong Kong and the darling that she is, brought back some goodies for me ❤
When I did the shoot for this outfit, my bf’s eyes went big! And then he started asking stuff like “where’d you get those pants?” or “where’s you get those shoes?” and then said “please wear this all the time!”. Since grade 12, I have ROCKED red jeans! Ever since I read The Back to School essentials in Seventeen Mag, they said red jeans should be the staple of your year. And to me, that sounded so cool! No one at my school had ever worn red jeans or let alone a coloured pant!! I hit up Old Navy and that’s where I found them – RED JEANS! My first ever pair of red jeans and I felt so good! I think this was the moment when I started to really take notice of my fashion choices and dared to wear things that was out of the box. I pairs some red jeans with a classic Navy/White striped tee which gave, in my opinion, a sort of modern Parisian flare. But to put it all together, I added some leopard print wedges, cause why the heck not!?
The weather here has been so random lately. Last week was hot and humid and this week has been frigid and rainy!! Like the the heck Canada!?! Be consistent for once other than in winter! During those hot and humid days, I was ROCKING this amazingly fresh, hip and boho-ish outfit! I sometimes would wear it 2-3 days straight if i was seeing different people just because it was so easy to put together. And to keep it really simple on wear you ladies can find these items – they’re all at Addition Elle! NO KIDDING! Like I said, Addition Elle has really ampted up their game!!! And the fact that I get to see what comes out of the boxes on Stock Days lol doesn’t help my wallet whatsoever!
Rings – From various friends, family and adventures
The white tank luckily enough if you aren’t fans of the white come in a whole bunch of different colours too!! Olive, Navy, Oxblood, Black and Yellow are to name a few. I’ve got the white, as you can see, and the Olive, paired with tribal print leggings looks so on point!! Last little thing about the tank is that yes my bra straps are showing and i could care less!! It was hot as heck when i wore this for it to be almost a taboo for bra straps to show, get off!
The Pants!! I’m very biased when it comes to these pants: if you want to wear pants that are appropriate for everyday wear but feel like pjs, then these are your pants!!! I could practically live in them! They’re so light, flowy, trendy and totally versatile for the summer! You can match the pants with their crop top (sold separately) like GabiFresh did or wear a simple black cami and the matching kimono works too! This print also comes on a tank top and a romper!! When Addition Elle has a good print, they maximize it by expanding its potential on different clothing items. And boy do they have a winner here!!! You can find all of the fabulously printed items here along with other items selected by GabiFresh herself!
Do you have a perfect staple summer outfit?! Show it off on the blog’s facebook page!
Confession time: I am the sad recipient of acne prone skin. I have had acne since i was about 14 and now, at almost 21, I still fight this battle. It has gotten much better this past year in that my face looks clearer, my scars are fading and there is a certain glow. It could partly be because my hormones are starting to settle out but I think it honestly is because I finally found a regime that works! I’ll do another post sometime soon on my whole regime but today I’ll be talking about a newly added product to this winning system of mine!
Meet The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Face Mask! I have only been using this product for about a month and I can see why it’s in The Body Shop’s Top Rated category! My acne nowadays tends to pop up about a week before my period (sorry not sorry for TMI) and I have THE worst habit when it comes to having acne – i like try and pop them. I am not proud of it by any stretch of the imagination!! And for those who don’t quite know why that’s a horrible practice, lemme tell you: SCARS!!! Because by popping a pimple, you technically break the skin which in turn, creates a scar once the pore dries up. I don’t mean to do it but I’ve noticed I tend to touch/pick my face when I’m stressed and I do it sometimes without even realizing I’m doing it! So in an effort to be rid of this habit, I asked my friends and family to call me out on my picking when it occurs!! Anyway, back to the mask! The mask is so easy to spread on my face and it is such a lovely, smooth texture. The scent is also very comforting due to the Tea Tree! Since I was young, I’ve always been told that Tea Tree is like the holy grail for treating acne but sadly, my mom (never having acne when she was younger) never really invested in products to help, other than Pro Active. Let’s stop here for two seconds. Before you ask, yes I have tried Pro Active, on 3 separate occasions and it did NOTHING for my face!! In fact, it made skin oilier than usually, I was perpetually shiny (not cute!!). If it works for some people, that’s great but now that I’m getting older, I’m realizing more natural skin care products are just how my skin likes it. Back to the Mask: I loved how smooth it made my face feel after washing it off!! It really helped with reducing the redness of new breakouts, mattefied my oily T-zone and my skin felt so fresh and clean!!
Time for some side notes: I tend to have an oily T-zone and for me, at least, I did not find that the Mask made my skin any more oily. If fact, my face look incredible matte! When you use the product, there are 2 things to keep in mind. 1) It doesn’t really dry up! Unlike typical masks, this Tea Tree Mask doesn’t dry up and harden. 2)When you have the mask on, you’ll feel some light tingling, which is normal from the Tea Tree working it’s magic. One final note – The Body Shop does have a whole line completely devoted to Tea Tree products for blemished skin! If you want to ease your way into the line, I would recommend trying this mask first!
How to use it: After washing your face and patting it dry, apply a thin layer of the mask all over your face (neck too if you want!) using your fingers. Let it do it’s thing for about 5-10 minutes and then with a sink full of clean, fresh water, splash some on your face and use a damp face towel to remove the rest. Then take a gander in the mirror and look in amazement at how fresh and matte you face looks! I recommend doing this before bed. You can also use the mask as a spot treatment instead of an all-over situation.

Shower gels – they come in a huge variety of scents, benefits and can be found anywhere from a Walmart to a specialized bath shop! But it’s finding the one that gives you everything you need/want that’s the trick part. I have experimented with Dove, Neutrogena, Nivea, Body Shop and Bath and Body Works, all have been hit and miss but old reliable’s like the Dove Gentle Exfoliating Body Washsuccesses through and through. I recently try to stay awake from Bath & Body Works shower gels, the last scent I tried was the Seductive: Black Berry and Vanilla and it just made my face, chest and back just break out!!! It was so embarrassing and I’m sure it was more than likely from the fake fragrances they used. Since then I try to stay towards the more natural approaches or have been dermatologically approved. To try and reverse the effect the Bath & Body Works gel gave me, I went to Lush, seeing as though all of their products are completely natural, just to get my skin back into it’s groove. Then I found the one!
Meet Lush’s The Olive Branch Shower Gel! I could go on and on about how much I love this product but I’ll try and keep it simple! The gel itself has olive oil (the light yellow layer near the top of the bottle) and we all know how luxurious olive oil is for the skin!! The scent is light, uplifting and in a way very comforting thanks to the Mandarin juices in each bottle! Apart from the olive oil and Mandarin, the product also has vine leaves, sea salt and bergamont oil, which makes it all seem like you’re in the Mediterranean while taking a shower!! And last but not least, olive oil is like the back bone of my half Portuguese heritage, so in a way it makes me feel like I’m back in Portugal on a lovely sunny July day. Every time I use this product, my skin is noticeably softer and has the lightest hint of Mandarin scent. You will seriously feel rejuvenated after using this puppy!
Time for some side notes: Because it is all natural, you’ll be pay a pretty penny for it. It comes in 3 different sizes as you can see in the picture above and the price ranges from $9.95 – $28.95 (CND). But in fairness, you’re paying for quality more than anything else. Sure it’s easy to pay like $5 for a Bath & Body Works gel and call it a day but when you get a reaction because of the quality of the product, you learn to think twice.
How to use it: Before hopping into your shower, you wanna give the bottle a good shake! That way the olive oil is nicely mixed with the rest of the ingredients!! Also a little does go a long way – the lather from a sample the size of a Canadian toonie will probably last you the entire shower! Finally, I learned this the last time I was in Lush picking up something for my mom, but Lush shower gels can be used as shampoos too, still haven’t tried it yet but hope to soon! So there you go, more bang for your buck!!
This past Tuesday, I saw Mad Max:Fury Road with Mike…it was the weirdest freaking sh*t I’ve ever seen but kind of awesome at the same time. To be honest, I only went to see it cause of Tom Hardy! I never saw the Mel Gibson prequel and in Fury Road, there wasn’t really much of a plot. Legit, there was 20mins of non-stop action which was pretty sick!! If you’re looking for a movie to kill some time, love explosions, can stand a little disturbingly dystopic scenes and just wanna see some Tom Hardy, then this movie is for you!
I met up with Mike after he was done work and I had a little surprise for him! His favourite superhero is Batman and a few days before, I had ventured to H&M and got some pretty awesome crop tops! I had no idea H&M had such a funky assortment of crop tops if I hadn’t gone shopping with Jess from Clothes & Shit! Anyway, one of the crop tops I had bought was covered in Batman logos! And surprisingly, seeing as though it’s H&M and their sizing is hit and miss for me, a Large in the crop top fit pretty well! Enough coverage of the girls and a little bit of the waist. I felt like I was on cloud nine after I checked out that I thought I would venture to Forever 21+, just to see if by chance they had any high waisted denim shorts to go with my new tops and sure enough they did!!! MOUNTAINS AND MOUNTAINS OF DENIM SHORTS! And the best part was that they were have a 30% off all denim sale! It was meant to be!! Needless to say, Mike was very happy to see Batman looking so glorious all over me and I got so many compliments from complete strangers in the theater!
Batman Crop Top (size L) – H&M (Toronto Eaton Center)
You will hopefully be seeing the other few crop tops I got as time goes on! I’m really hoping that this summer I push my fashion fears and just wear whatever the heck I want! I’m tired of thinking there are certain things I can’t wear because of my body! That’s crap! This crop top was honestly such a leap for me – to be wearing a crop top that actually shows my belly felt so liberating!! My dear followers: wear what ever the heck you want because it’ll just drive you crazy to always think what people might think!
Happy Victoria Day to all my Canadian followers!! Hope all had an awesome long weekend and are ready for a nice short week! This is gonna be the first post for My Classy Curves – hope you enjoy it!!
The weather has been so beautiful the past few days!! Today for instance, it was about 23 degrees and I went flower shopping with my mom and went for a lovely bike ride all around the city with my dad! And then we had a surprise visit from my brother, his fiancee and their puppy Riley
On friday, my sweets of a boyfriend took a flight to Montreal for the long weekend to meet up with his family! Before he left we had lunch at one of my fave diners, the Thompson Diner. This place has legit the best grilled cheese I had ever had!! Mike got the grilled cheese which consisted of cheddar, swiss and provolone and then he decided to add bacon – BACON! I had the Smoked Turkey Club which was still god but it was completely shadowed by the holiness that was the grilled cheese! Plus to be extra cute, we split a vanilla milkshake 🙂
I wanted to wear something that was both comfy yet demanded attention, which is just how i roll sometimes! Mike had no complaints, he loved the pants i was in! I kind of felt like Jenny from the Block in this outfit – not gonna lie! It pretty much consisted of a lot of black and some bold blue stripes! You’ll see what I mean by bold:
I have owned these pants for about 2 years now and they are honestly the comfiest jeans I own!! I usually save these puppies for whenever I go to a Blue Jays game. Fun story: i wore this exact outfit to work one day and a customer approached me just said “Those are amazingly Bold! I love them!! You never seen pants like these for plus size women very often!” And it’s true! Plus size women are pretty limited when it comes to funky patterned pants/leggings! But luckily, Addition Elle has launched some funky leggings that I have snatched up and they’re so versatile! You can find there here ladies (I’ve got the aztec print ones! You’ll be seeing them hopefully soon for a post!). Apart from leggings though, printed pants/jeans are pretty scarce for us thicker gals. It takes some very persistent shopping to find the perfect pair. Besides these Bold Blues, I had a pair of red high-waisted jeans and snake skin-like pattern that was posted about a year ago, both of which were found in an Jones New York Outlet! If you’re near one, give them a try!! Keep on searching gals, you will find your perfect printed pants! If you’ve got them, I’d love to see them -Post them on the blogs Facebook wall!!
I love bath products and skin care! What girl doesn’t? Taking a lovely hot bath with some candles and Michael Bublé serenading me in the back ground is how I love to relax. A few weeks ago I went out with my darling friend Jess from Clothes and Shit and we walked one of the most fashionable streets in Toronto – Queen West! Check out Jess’s post on our date here! Queen West was dubbed by Vogue Mag the 2nd hippest-district and for good reason! Tons of local boutiques, restaurants, cafés and big name clothing stores from H&M, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, Joe Fresh and Aritzia, to name a few, all of which are pretty much within a 5min walk from each other. As we walked, we went into The Body Shop and from my overwhelming excitement, I started telling Jess about the different products and the shops latest scent of Fuji Green Tea. She gave me the idea of starting a blog series on bath products because she was so impressed by how much I knew! I won’t just limit the series to The Body Shop, I will branch out Lush, Dove, Crabtree and Evelyn and any other brand I can get my hands on!!
Today we are gonna be talking about The Body Shop’s Beautifying Oils. I was first caught by this product about a year ago and I had to get an explanation on it! I mean, what is beautifying oil?? It’s basically dry oil, and dry oil is a lightweight and fast absorbing treatment that will leave your skin feeling like satin (seriously!) – not grease! It’s also been recommended for all skin types for moisturizing! And there are so many benefits to making Dry Oil part of your routine! As stated by Michelle Phan’s SkinCare Spotlight dry oil can help in preventing sun damage, uneven skin tone and can be used for moisturizing your hair, face and body!!
Now for the Beautifying oils, the shop girl said you can apply it directly on your skin. So i tried it her way and to be honest, I wasn’t that crazy about it. Sometime this past winter, after a long day at clinical, I wanted to take a nice relaxing bath to soothe my body and on a whim, having not really used much of the Oils, I squirted some of the Chocomania Oil into my bath ~~ AND THUS THE BEAUTIFYING BATH WAS CREATED! When i squirted in the oil, my whole Bathroom smelled like chocolate instantly!! Before climbing into my bath, I noticed that the oils and the water had separated (which is normal), so i just gave the water a good swish around and jumped right in. With no word of a lie, in probably less that 10mins, I could already feel my skin becoming smooth! When I parted from my luxurious bath, i was moisturized from head to toe without any real effort on my part and my skin had a light hit of chocolaty smell! My skin looked illuminated and had a light, healthy sheen about it and feel supple well into the next night! The Body Shop Canada has a love selection of scents to choose from like Strawberry, Shea, Satsuma, Olive, Moringa, Coconut, and Mango to name a few. There is a scent for everyone’s taste and they can all be found here!!
Time for some side notes: I tend to have oily hair and while it says it can be used for hair, I usually keep my hair up whenever I have a Beautifying Bath. I tend to also have an oily to combination face, and I found with the Oil added to the bath, it didn’t make my face any oilier or shiny, just lightly smooth. Also, Chocomania was a Promotional scent by The Body Shop, so it’s gonna be very difficult to find it, in Canada at least, but I would recommend the Strawberry to start yourself off with. The Strawberry is a light scent for those who are sensitive to smell but it will still give you all the benefits!
How to use: Like the shopgirl said, you can apply this straight onto dry skin or hair. But if you want to have a Beautifying Bath, fill up your tub, and squirt in the oil for about 2-3 MISSISSIPPI’s and then swirl the water. The oil will eventually separate from the water as the bath goes on but not to worry, just give the water a little swirl and your skin will soak it up! If you don’t have a tub, for your shower, you can add a few drops into your bath sponge with your body wash and rub it all over!
And there you have it – our first Treat Yourself post! Give the Beautifying Bath a try and let me know what you thought! And if you have some fave bath products you think I should give a go, leave a comment of post it on out Facebook page!
